Purple Protea Bouquet

Purple Protea is an original mixed media painting on 20x20 inch stretched canvas created using acrylic paint, gold ink, and oil pastels. 

Proteas are some of the world's oldest flowering bushes, considered exotic plants from South Africa. There are over 1400 varieties of this flower, which can be found in stories from Greek mythology.  

I thought these flowers were so beautiful in how they start out in a cone shape and open to a stunning flower with pointed petals and a delicate center. They resemble pin cushions from another world that symbolize transformation, courage, and diversity.
